English Rakugo with Katsura Fukumaru | Shinwa Girls’ School (親和中学校・親和女子高等学校) | 土曜日, 17. 11月 2018

Shinwa Girls Junior & Senior High School will be hosting the Hanshin E.S.S. Union’s first English rakugo performance by Katsura Fukumaru. This event is open to everyone. We would like to invite all of you to experience this traditional performance with all of us, in English!
Rakugo (落語, literally "fallen words") is a form of Japanese verbal entertainment. The lone storyteller (落語家 rakugoka) sits on stage, called kōza (高座). Using only a paper fan (扇子 sensu) and a small cloth (手拭 tenugui) as props, and without standing up from the seiza sitting position, the rakugo artist depicts a long and complicated comical (or sometimes sentimental) story. Katsura Fukumaru was born in Kobe. He graduated from Nada High School (affiliate school in the Hanshin ESS Union), and went on to study Law at Kyoto University. Upon graduated, he decided to learn English rakugo and performance in America. Since 2007, he has been active in the rakugo community and won several awards. ()
He will be doing three stories in total that day - 2 in English, and 1 in Japanese. The event will be about 1 hour long.
This event is free. Please RSVP to attend.
